UN Humanitarian chief called for protection of civilians and access for humanitarian aid in South Sudan.
Valerie Amos called on all parties to immediately stop the violence, prevent further unnecessary loss of life, create conducive security environment for aid delivery.
She said she was alarmed by the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Pibor where an estimated 100 thousand civilians were cut off from assistance.
Ms Amos asked the international community to ensure that necessary logistical resources including air assets reach all affected people in Pibor County.
She expressed UN’s readiness to work with all parties to ensure people in need receive humanitarian assistance.
Ms Amos reminded all sides to respect their obligations under international humanitarian law to protect civilians.
