The UN chief issued a statement condemning a deadly attack on peacekeepers in South Darfur on Saturday.
Seven Tanzanian blue helmets were killed and 17 others injured when unknown assailants ambushed a UNAMID patrol in South Darfur.
Ban Ki-moon said he was outraged to learn of a deadly attack on the blue helmets.
He expresses his deepest sympathies to the families of the fallen peacekeepers, the Government of Tanzania and to all UNAMID personnel.
Mr Ban condemned the heinous attack on UNAMID, the third in three weeks.
He said he expected that the Government of Sudan would take swift action to bring the perpetrators to justice.
Sudan’s foreign ministry blamed the Minnawi faction of the Sudan Liberation Army for the ambush.
