Authorities of Yei River County in Central Equatoria State have issued a local order limiting to 30 kilometres per hour the speed limit for vehicles in town.

The order came following daily road accidents and loss of innocent lives due to reckless riding and driving in the county, Easter Radio reported.

Yei River County Commissioner Juma David Augustine said the order was issued to reduce the rampant road accidents occurring in the streets within towns and outskirt roads.

He directed law enforcement agents to arrest all drivers caught breaking the speed limit within the towns of Yei River County.

Anyone found guilty will be charged a fine of no less than 1,000 South Sudanese Pounds.

If the driver fails to pay the fine, the vehicle will be auctioned.
