Residents in Gumuruk Payam in Pibor County, Jonglei State, received humanitarian aid to see them through this month.

Helicopters delivered food, soap, filters, jerry cans, buckets and water treatment tablets together with household items and seeds to Gumuruk’s 3,300 residents and to 560 people displaced from Manyabol to Gumuruk, UNOCHA said.

Protection partners continued to conduct daily visits to Gumuruk to engage local authorities, including the armed forces, to protect civilians and ensure they do not become targets of abuse as they receive humanitarian assistance.

The UN agency added that the security situation remained tense in Jonglei.

Several incidents of armed hostilities between the armed forces and non-state armed actors were reported in and around Pibor town.
