A week-long program aimed at immunizing children under one year of age and pregnant women in Rumbek kicked off Tuesday to end on Sunday.

Simon Makoi Maker serves at the Ministry of Health as the Director for Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI).

He told Good News Radio that the immunization program that started with Rumbek would cover the entire Lakes State.

Mr. Makoi said the program offers vaccines to babies and pregnant mothers, protecting them against a number of diseases, including tuberculosis, whooping cough, and polio.

The immunization program takes place in 40 different locations within Rumbek.

Mr. Makoi urged Rumbek residents to turn up at any centre where immunization takes place and have their children vaccinated.

The first day of immunization recorded a good turn up at the various places.

Mary Adhel told Good News Radio reporter that she had brought four children for vaccination.

She added that she would not worry about her children getting sick since they had received the vaccines.

The ongoing immunization Program in Lakes State is being implemented by the Department of Immunization, under the Lakes State Ministry of Health.
