The National Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment on Thursday toured Konyokonyo and Jebel markets to assess commodity prices ahead of independence celebrations.
Undersecretary Simon Nyang Anei told the press that the ministry found that prices were stable and everybody could afford independence celebrations on July 9, Bakhita Radio reported.He called on the authorities in the ten states to help monitor prices in the markets.
Mr Nyang said his ministry agreed with Kenana Sugar Company in the Sudan to supply sugar to the ten states.
He added that the ministry and Kenana would soon sign a memorandum of understanding.
The Director for Trade in the ministry Stephen Doctor said maize flour bags remained underweight.
He added that maize flour bags weighed less that the indicated 50 kg.
Mr Doctor said the ministry will write to the suppliers so that they fill the bags with real weight.
The market survey confirmed that the prices are stable as the country prepares to celebrate its second anniversary of independence.
