The United Nation High Commission for Refugee or UNHCR processed 540 South Sudan Nationality identification documents for children returnees in Western Bahr El Ghazal.

The programme targeted children from disabled parents and poorest families, including widows, residing in Alel Chock, New Site, Nazereth, Khur Malong, Jezeerah, and Jebel Kher returnees camps, Voice of Hope reported.

More than 100 children at Alel Chock returnees’ area in Wau received their nationality certificates as Wau marked the World Refugee Day on Thursday.

UNHCR Programme Associate Richard Eriku Arkangelo encouraged the returnees to support themselves since they are already at home.

Mr Eriku said the nationality cards will help the beneficiaries to access opportunities across the country.

The program benefits children below 18 years of age identified by Boma Protection Community Network.

UNHCR said one nationality card cost nearly 120 Pounds, including assessment of age certificate, blood group and forms.

UNHCR is planning to issue another 500 nationality cards in other areas of Western Bahr El Ghazal.

Returnees in Wau on Thursday gathered at Alel Chock to mark World Refugee Day and remember their lives in the camps.
