The National Bureau of Statistics or NBS planned a five-year statistic development study to strengthen the smooth running of its activities in the country.

NBS chairperson Isaiah Chol Aruai said South Sudan’s statistics are impeded, outdated and dilapidated in dire need for capacity building, Bakhita Radio reported.

He said NBS authorities and development partners discussed ways to overcome the challenges.

Mr Chol said the five-year project will provide an opportunity to build a concrete foundation in the country.

Acting Finance Minister Marial Awou said South Sudan needs to develop statistics to manage the country’s limited resources.

He said the government needed to put statistics as priority to enable it to properly allocate resources.

The five-year project will cost 58 million US dollar.

The World Bank and the development partners will together lobby for the budget of the project.
