The National Legislative Assembly passed the HIV AIDS Commission Bill 2013 to its third reading on Wednesday’s sitting.

The head of the Committee of Health, and HIV AIDS in the Assembly Elizabeth Nyawal Chol said the bill is consistent with the Transitional Constitution

She added that the report she presented to the Assembly stressed that the members of the AIDS Commission should be appointed by the President and approved by the National Assembly by a simple majority.

Ms Nyawal said the Commission shall have two permanent members, the Chairperson and the Deputy, to run its affairs plus staff members.

She added that the executive of the commission shall be on a part time basis as the members are people working in some ministries.

The Bill will go to the Committee of Legislation and Justice for scrutiny prior to its presentation to the Assembly for the third and forth readings next week.
