Emmanuel Radio is installing solar panels to boost its broadcast capacity to listeners in Eastern Equatoria state.
Engineers from Nairobi, Kenya, are installing the solar panels as the station commemorates the fourth year of broadcast.Radio Director Santino Lounoi singled out the cost of running a generator for broadcasting as the biggest challenge the station faced after fuel prices increased.
He said the installation of the solar system will cut running costs and reduce expenses that over stretched the management of the station.
Fr Lounoi said the station was damaged by a lightening strike that burnt some equipment and a storm brought down the mast in the past two years.
He said Emmanuel Radio faces challenges of raising revenue for survival as the station depends on advertisement and announcements.

The Radio is one of the nine stations of the Catholic Radio Network established by the Sudan Catholic Bishops’ Conference.
