Lainya County Commissioner vowed to take measures against drug abusers.

Huda Michael said a drunken person will spend one month in prison, Easter Radio reported.

She explained that drug abuse leads to criminal acts in the county.

Ms Michael said culprits are punished by the community in order to reform.

She added that the community needs some awareness and law reinforcement to deal with the rape cases that happen in the county.

Ms Michael encouraged women to form an organization and hire women lawyers who can help them come up with solutions for issues affecting them and the community.

She said rape issues should be settled in court rather than at family level.

The commissioner was reacting to the rape of a nine-year old girl by a soldier on Sunday in Logilo Boma.

Medical personnel at Lainya Civil Hospital confirmed that the girl sustained some internal damage.

They added that she was responding to the treatment.
