The National Legislative Assembly on Monday passed the fine-tuned recommendations and resolutions of the security situation in South Sudan with observations.

The report focused mainly on the oil and mineral sector security and inter-communal security in Unity, Lakes, Warrap and Jonglei states.

The report also raised some concerns about the United Nations Mission in South Sudan, pastoralists and farmers’ conflicts in Central Equatoria and other states.

Defence, Security and Public Order Committee Chairperson in the Assembly Aleu Ayuen Aleu recommended an urgent development and enactment of the national oil and mineral security policies that shall spell out the roles of each security organ.

He said on May 27 the committee had only 27 resolutions, but that now it has 49 resolutions.

Mr Alieu said from January 2012 to March 2013, 4,747 people were killed and 2,624 others wounded due to cattle raids and tribal conflict in the country

The MP said the committee considered that the residence of the President of the Republic was insecure due to the construction of high buildings in Hai Amarat.

The committee suggested the renovation of the old President’s residence in the military barracks for Mr Kiir’s immediate relocation.
