The Acting Upper Nile Governor issued an executive order stopping the National Taxation authorities from practising what he called “illegal taxation at Malakal Port.”

John Ivo Mounto said National Taxation officers are collecting taxes in a wrong way and therefore they should be not allowed to operate, Voice of Love reported.

“I do here by stop the wrangling of the National Taxation which are illegally operating and increase the situation of citizens’ expenses in Upper Nile state through River Port,” the order reads.

Mr Ivo accused the National Taxation authorities of overtaxing local and external traders without Form 15 or any legal document and take huge tax amounts without account numbers.

The Acting Governor said the National Taxation should not be operating in a state capital.

He warned that if the order is violated the case will fall under the security agenda.

Citizens in Upper Nile paying high prices for the goods they buy since 2012 and traders claim that high taxation at Malakal Port is responsible for soaring inflation in the state.
