An investigative committee into the President’s office theft discovered that robbers used the doors to access the office from where they stole 208 thousand pounds, 14 thousand US dollars and two laptop computers in March.
John Gatwech, who headed the Investigation Committee, told the press on Friday that the enquiry found there were two break-ins at the President’s Office compound.Justice Gatwech said the hole the robbers dug in the wall was too small to let a person in and they entered through the doors of the office.
He pointed out that the theft was arranged and the hole was just a decoy to mislead investigations.
The judge added that the theft was a combination of factors that included entry through offices doors, negligence and lack of inter-departmental communications in the Office of the President.
Justice Gatwech said the committee investigated staff in the office including Chief Administrator Mayan Wol Jong, Executive Director Yel Luol Koor, and Controller of Accounts Nhomout Agoth.
He said the committee after listening to testimonies from witnesses and examining documents pertaining to the case, recommended administrative actions against some officials for negligence.
Justice Gatwech did not reveal the kind of administrative action advised against negligent officials in the Office of the President.
