United Nation Mission in South Sudan or UNMISS Individual Contractors or IC workers on Monday demonstrated demanding their rights.

The Contractors rejected UNMISS decision to give the security guard section to the private companies, Radio Bakhita reported.

They closed the main gate demanding the head of mission, Guard Force and Director for Mission Support to resolve their issue.

Samuel Zanuga, one of the Contractors told Radio Bakhita that they rejected UNMISS’ decision to bring a private company.

He complained that UNMISS was to help the people but not to stop them from work.

Mr Zenuga urged that UNMISS should only extend their contracts but not terminate them.

Tongo Emmanuel, another IC worker said they support the policy of giving nine months period contract.

He said the strikes came after UNMISS failed to respond to their Memos.

UNMISS Public Information Chief Brian Kelly said Individual Contractors was not going to lose their jobs.

He said the new contract would absorb all the security guards and individual constructors.

The IC workers said work will not resumed until the authority iron out the problem.

The striking Contractors blockedÊ UNMISS compound.
