A catechist from Rumbek Diocese has decided to join the Minor Seminary in order to prepare for the priesthood.
Emmanuel Ngot, who has served as a Catechist for ten years, told Good News Radio that he decided to join the seminary in Mapuordit because there are very few priests to serve the community.Mr. Ngot added that his father was initially disappointed with his decision because he would not marry but eventually gave his blessing.
St. Josephine Bakhita Minor Seminary, Mapuordit, reopened on Monday but a good number of old and new seminarians have not yet reported.
Fr. Mark Ofuho, a member of the Congregation of the Apostles of Jesus, is the Rector of Mapuordit Minor Seminary. He said in an e-mail to Good News Radio that 43 seminarians have reported at Mapuordit Seminary out of the expected 66.
Fr. Ofuho attributed the turnout of seminarians to the elections, explaining that some were hired by the National Elections Commission as election officials and others worked as party agents at polling stations.
He said the seminarians are still at home waiting to be paid by the NEC and the parties in order to get money for their schools fees.
Fr. Ofuho said that the same low turnout was also true for the students of Mapuordit Secondary School, where the seminarians attend classes.
The seminarians attend classes at Mapuordit Secondary School where 122 students have registered this year.
