Central Equatoria state Ministry of Animal Resources and Fisheries purchased sheep to crossbreed with a type from abroad.

State Minister for Animal Resources and Fisheries, Gerald Francis said they brought 550 sheep from Kapoeta, Eastern Equatoria state to cross breed with Holland sheep, Bakhita Radio reported.

He explained that the crossbreeding will produce unique type of sheep suitable for both local and international markets.

Mr Francis said his ministry intends to boost competition of South Sudan livestock to meet the international market standard.

The sheep are temporarily stationed at the state Livestock, Poultry and Fisheries Demonstration Farm formally known as Mafao.

Director-General in the ministry, George Kamilo said the ministry plans to introduce dairy product soon in order to produce milk locally and reduce importation.
