Wards in Torit Civil Hospital in Eastern Equatoria are overcrowded with patients sleeping on the floor.

Health Minister Margaret Itto confirmed the undesirable status of the health facility, Radio Emmanuel reported.

Dr Itto said the congestion was due to increase of population, and influx of returnees from Khartoum, East Africa and the neighbouring countries.

She said Kapoeta, Nimule, Isohe and Chukudum hospitals are other health facilities in the state that receive large numbers of patients.

Torit Civil Hospital has four wards, including a maternity.
