A UN agency is organizing a fundraising competition to purchase solar panels for the paediatric ward of Wau Teaching Hospital.
UN Volunteer in Civil Affairs Section Catherine Onekhalid said the idea came after a cleaning campaign at Wau Teaching Hospital last year marking International Volunteers Day.She said volunteers realized the special needs of the paediatric wards in the hospital.
Ms Onekhalid said the volunteers came out with initiatives to raise funds, including a donation box, a charity dinner and a ten-kilometre running and cycling competition.
SheÊ said the money raised will help purchase eight solar panels for each of the three paediatric wards of the Hospital.
Ms Onekhalid called on all community members to participate in the competition in order to improve children’s health conditions in Western Bahr el Ghazal.
The decathlon competition will take place on Saturday June 15, starting from Wau Teaching Hospital and ending at UNMSS compound.
