At least two people were killed when a thunderstorm with strong winds and heavy rains struck Yirol, in Lakes State.
Holy Cross-Yirol Assistant Parish Priest Antoine Kondo told CRN over the phone that a big storm hit Yirol on Wednesday between 5:30 and 6:30PM.He said a young girl was killed by lightning in her house and a falling tree struck dead a pregnant woman.
Fr Kondo said there were rumours that a man and a cow were killed by a thunderbolt but he could not confirm.
He added that cyclonic winds caused havoc in town, uprooting huge trees, and damaging zinc and thatched roofs.
Fr Kondo said the stores at Daniel Comboni Primary School lost their roofs and some shops at a local market were uprooted by the strong winds.
