Kapoeta South Women Association petitioned the government to relocate military barracks away from Kapoeta town centre.
The chairlady of the Association, Hellen Orasion, on Sunday handed a petition to Eastern Equatoria state governor, Louis Lobong Lojore, Emmanuel Radio reported.She said the current location of the barracks interferes with the peace of civilians.
The petition alleged that soldiers who escaped from Boma were terrorizing civilians by shooting guns unnecessarily in Kapoeta town and injuring civilians.
It claimed that many soldiers who escaped from Boma sexually abused women in Kapoeta South County.
Kapoeta South County Commissioner, Martin Lorika, denied women’s claims saying no soldier was arrest on such charges.
Commissioner Lorika said the issue of relocating the military barracks outside Kapoeta town was under review.
He added that it was suggested to move the barracks to a plot seven kilometres from the town.
