MINISTRY GETS EXTRA 30 MILLION TO IMPROVE MEAT, DAIRY PRODUCTION

The national ministry of Animal Resources and Fisheries will get an extra 30 million pounds in the next fiscal year to improve meat and dairy production and establish a genetic laboratory.

Government spokesperson Barnaba Marial Benjamin announced the budget increase at the end of Friday’s Council of Ministers.

He said the extra money goes to the Marial Bai and Mapau dairy projects and to establish the National Veterinary Laboratory for genetic research.

Dr Marial said the Animal Resources and Fisheries minister Martin Elia encouraged the registration of ranch land for the production of milk and beef in order for farmers to access loans from agriculture and cooperative banks.

He added that the Cabinet okayed the membership to the Organization of Animal Health, proposed by minister Elia.

The Cabinet also approved the establishment of the Engineering Council of South Sudan and provided the institution with two million pounds for running its administration until it prepares a budget.

Vice-President Riek Machar Teny chaired the council of ministers.

President Salva Kiir Mayardit is in Addis Ababa, the Ethiopian capital, since Friday morning, with another 53 leaders attending the 50 years of the African Union that was born as Organization of African Unity.
