An angry mob attacked two passersby near Juba stoning one car and beating and robbing drivers after their houses were demolished in Gumbo.
Bernhard Hengl, a Comboni Missionary form Germany working with the Bishops’ Conference, told CRN that he was attacked by some 25 very angry men at about 12:15 noon on the road to Rejaf where he is doing some building work in the church compound.He said the mob threw big stones at his car smashing the glasses and forcing him out. One stone hit his face.
Brother Bernhard was punched and beaten in front a policeman who did not intervene.
Mobsters took his personal computer and mobile phone before melting into the bush.
Brother Bernhard said a local priest teaching in the Philosophy Seminary, who was travelling ahead of him to Rejaf, was also punched in his face and had some hearing problems.
He added that he managed to drive to Rejaf with a broken windscreen and someone phoned Bishop Santo Loku Pio reporting the incidents.
Bishop Loku alerted the Police chief who sent a number of patrol cars to bring the brother and the priest to the bishop after checking the scene of the crime.
The two were then taken to the headquarters of the Police where they were interviewed and taken to the hospital for an x-ray.
Then they were driven to Gumbo Police Station to have their statements recorded.
