Women from various civil society and faith based organisations called for justice in the South Sudan.
On Thursday, a number of people gathered at Juba’s Women Union to express their concern on the prevailing situation of rampant rape and murder cases that threaten security, Bakhita Radio reported.Women representative Harriet Baka said they are not happy because offenders are not tried and they want the government to respond quickly.
She said murderers and rapists must be punished for violating human rights.
Ms Baka urged the international community, UN agencies and embassies to sanction the government for human rights violations.
Central Equatoria State minister for Gender and Social Development Mary Apai said the government should bring the law breakers to book.
She urged the community to be alert and inform the government of whatever is happening within the community.
Bena Mark said the women raise their grievances to the government and they are not happy about the crimes that are being committed in the country.
She said many crimes happen but the government takes no step against perpetrators.
Ms Mark added that the government needed to safeguard security to all citizens in the country.
The women wanted to march to the national parliament, but security stopped them to avoid chaos in the city.
The women intended to make a procession protesting against the raping of the ten-year-old girl on May 13 who died.
