Oil continues to flow from the wells in South Sudan towards Port Sudan and there is no blockage.
This was the main message Government spokesperson Barnaba Marial Benjamin delivered to the press after an extended emergency cabinet meeting called for by President Salva Kiir Mayardit on Wednesday, Bakhita Radio reported.President Kiir summoned the petroleum and mining minister Stephen Dhieu Dau to brief ministers on the oil production and transport.
Minister Dhieu confirmed that the oil was flowing normally through Sudan’s pipeline.
The Government spokesperson added that minister Dhieu said on Tuesday there was a temporary blockage at Jebellen but should be resolved by the end of Wednesday.
Dr Marial said minister Dhieu travelled to Khartoum to meet his Sudanese counterpart to clear the air about oil transport.
He added that President Kiir also briefed the Cabinet about the meeting he will have with President Omar Al Bashir at the sidelines of the African Union Summit in the Ethiopian capital.
Dr Marial said the oil from South Sudan’s fields should reach the terminal in Port Sudan by June.
He announced that Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta will visit Juba on Thursday on his way to Addis Ababa.
President Kiir chaired the extended emergency cabinet meeting that was also attended by Speaker James Wani Igga, presidential advisors and Pagan Amum, the head of South Sudan’s negotiating team among others.
