A civil society activist urged both the Government and UN to protect journalists and implement the action plan for the protection and safety of journalists and issues of impunity.

Community Empowerment for Progress Organization or CEPO Director Edmond Yakane said South Sudan as a member of the UN should take the resolution as binding, Voice of Hope reported.

He said the Government and the UN through the Secretary-General special representative should lay down action plans to ensure those journalists are protected.

Mr Yakane pointed out that putting the action plan for journalist protection and safety is to ensure its implementation in South Sudan.

He added that those who will be assigned to implement the plan should be held accountable.

Mr Yakane said South Sudan should let journalists access information and bring and end to impunity.

He made these remarks to journalists on Monday in Wau during a citizens constitutional dialogue.

The dialogue brought together more than 150 participants who gave their views on South Sudan Transitional Constitution.
