Rumbek Senior Public Health Officer urged the community to take environment protection seriously, warning that the courts of law will be used to bring about proper sanitation to the town.

Makur Ater Akony told Good News Radio that the Public Health Office in Rumbek town is keen on the matters of environment, beginning with the town’s drainage system.

Mr. Ater urged the community to dig toilets and each family to build a kitchen.

He also warned families against burying their dead in the homestead.

Mr. Ater hat tough words for those who litter the town with plastic bottles, saying that anyone found throwing empty bottles all over the place will be arrested for littering.

The public officer also said that having a clean environment will be the best way to prevent diseases.

Lack of proper sanitation is a great concern for Rumbek town residents.

The town has a very poor drainage system and the community is usually exposed to waterborne diseases, especially during the rainy season.
