An official from the Ministry of Education warned teachers undergoing in-service training against abandoning the course without sufficient reasons.

Director of General Education in Eastern Equatoria state Education ministry Celestino Dumo Nyei warned that the ministry will not consider trainees who defect from the in-service programme to come back to teach in schools, Radio Emmanuel reported.

He made the warning after over 40 trainees left the primary school teachers’ in-service course.

Mr. Dumo stressed that the government spends resources to ensure that teachers become professionals but those who reject the training should find other jobs.

The director explained that the in-service training programme was designed for teachers without professional qualification in teaching.

He said the programme aims at improving professionalism in teaching and also enable the public service to recognize the qualifications of teachers to adjust salary scale.

Mr. Dumo added that untrained persons will also be eliminated from the classrooms after massive training of teachers in the state.

He said the teacher-trainees defected because of domestic challenges, low educational background and financial hardships.

Mr. Dumo told the press that some teacher trainees are employed in different sectors of the government while others are sitting idle at their homes.
