An unknown assailant early Monday afternoon shot dead one medical officer and injured another two at Wau Teaching Hospital.
The man, who is suspected to be a soldier, climbed over the fence and entered through the window into the operation theatre and opened fire against the three personnel.Services at Wau Teaching Hospital were brought to standstill following the incident.
Wau Municipal Mayor Michael Gebba confirmed to Voice of Hope that the assailant is the husband of a woman who was believed to have died at the hospital after an operation.
He revealed that the man last week opened a case at Wau Police Station against the hospital, and the case is still under investigation.
Mr. Gebba said the killer has surrendered himself to the security and the situation is under control.
He called on citizens to remain calm.
Wau Teaching Hospital medical director Marcello Gabriel on Thursday said the woman who died last week was referred for operation due to delivery complications.
He said the woman passed away due to high bleeding.
Voice of Hope was denied access to cover the incident at the hospital.
