Tombura County Health Director warned midwives who charge pregnant women for their services to stop such illegal practices in health facilities.

William Bakata was speaking during the handover of Mabia Health Centre renovated by the International Medical Corps or IMC in Tombura County, Radio Anisa reported.

He said he received several complains from women that were charged between 20 and 50 Pounds plus other materials in Mabia health facilities.

The county health director thanked IMC for renovating the facility destroyed by strong winds on February 2012.

He urged all pregnant women to use the health centre to give birth.

Mr Bakata advised midwives to stop criticisms, insults and illegal charging because women who do not have money will be scared to use the health facility.

He stated that the violators of his order will be punished.
