Facebook website was penalized for allowing the posting of an offensive photo of a French bishop who is not a member of the social networking.
The French Bishops Conference reported in its website that since February 23, Bishop Herv√Ö¬Ω Giraud’s photograph was on Facebook together with indecent words. It added that the bishop reported this “illicit content” to Facebook but the photo was not removed.
The prelate brought his case to Court in early March and the trial was held on April 13.
The Court ordered the removal of the photograph and the insulting comments, and gave a sentence to the Facebook France enterprise.
The company has 15 days to appeal the court decision before the sentence, including a monetary fine, is fulfilled.
