Hotel workers met to discuss challenges they face, including mistreatment by foreign employers.

South Sudan Hotel Workers Association Chairperson Taifa Kuer Mach told Bakhita Radio that national workers are mistreated by hotel owners who are normally foreigners.

He said the hotel workers called the conference to present their grievances to the government.

Mr Kuer added that most hotel owners employ South Sudanese without contracts and can terminate employment at will.

Garang John from Bros Hotel said most hotel owners bring with them foreign nationals to staff the facilities.

He added that top positions are always given to foreigners and South Sudanese are never considered.

Undersecretary in the ministry of Labour and Public Services Hellen Achiro Lotara urged foreign investors to create jobs locally and stop importing their workforces.

Ms Achiro said foreign workers should teach locals and coach them instead of taking their jobs.

Many South Sudanese hotel workers are discontent with the mistreatment by some owners who do not give them leave and do not treat them like their foreigner colleagues.
