Nuba Mountains rebels dismissed allegations that they attacked Um-Bermbita, in South Kordofan State, on Sunday.
Heiban County SPLM-N Political Chairman Younan Al-Barout Ajour said fighting in Um-Bermbita was provoked by the Sudan Armed Forces when attempted to retake Sarafaya in Dalami County.He said SAF attacked Sarafaya, which is under the control of the Sudan Revolutionary Front or SRF, and it was repelled and pursued until Um-Bermbita the base where it came from.
The chairman said claims that SAF defeated SRF forces in Um-Bermbita were not true.
Mr Al-Barout stated that SRF is prepared to enter Khartoum but not from Um-Bermbita.
Reports say Sunday’s clashes displaced many civilians in the embattled area of Um-Bermbita.
Fighting between the army and rebel forces has intensified since late April following recent attacks in Abu Karshola and Um-Rawaba in North and South Kordofan states.
