Education is critical to build national identity and overcome tribalism because an educated person is able to cater to its needs and overcome corruption and poverty.
This is the view the Coordinator South Sudanese Peace Initiative in Australia, Nyok Achouth Gor, shared with CRN.
Mr Achouth said ethnicity and tribalism are very strong in South Sudan and in Africa because people are born into that ideology since they learn their mother tongues.
He noted that basic needs have to be addressed to overcome tribalism and build up a sense of nationhood.
Mr Achouth said basic education allows a person to cater for the needs and to address the issues of poverty, unemployment and corruption issues that foster tribalism.
South Sudan is still struggling with the ideal of nationhood and the country is very much understood along the tribal divide.
