The Government of Eastern Equatoria State sent a delegation to Loudo on Wednesday to console bereaved families of victims from a recent attack that claimed the lives of eight people in Bur Payam of Torit County.
Information Minister Felix Otuduha Siro said Governor Louis Lobong Lojore delegated a committee of government officials to visit the bereaved families and those wounded in Saturday’s clashes, Radio Emmanuel reported.Minister Otuduha said six suspects were arrested following the incident.
He condemned the incident and urged the people to seek legal procedures instead of taking the law into their hands.
The police is still investigating the causes for the clashes that seem to be related to land issues.
Torit County Commissioner German Charles Ojok said residents from the two villages of Omorwo and Bari confronted each other on Saturday at midday.
The commissioner added that the deadly clash happened when he was travelling to the villages in question for a different mission.
The dispute, which could have been resolved amicably, deteriorated badly leading to the death of the eight people including three women.
Commissioner Ojok said some army deserters were among the dead.
He explained that the soldiers escaped from Jonglei State where they were sent to fight David Yau Yau’s forces and disarm civilians.
