Rebels from the Sudan Revolutionary Front or SRF shelled the airport of Kadugli, in South Kordofan, killing four government officials.

Seven others were also wounded in the attack that took place over the weekend.

SPLM-North spokesperson Arnu Ngatulu Lodi said the SRF attacked Kadugli airport, because the facility was the centre of control and command for Government forces in South Kordofan.

He added that Kadugli airport is the launching pad for air and ground attacks against innocent civilians in the Nuba Mountains.

Mr Ngatulu warned the Sudan Civil Aviation Authority not to use Kadugli Airport or fly over the town, including the airspace in the SPLM-N controlled territories.

SRF comprises of the SPLA-N, Justice and Equality Movement and the Sudan Liberation Movement forces that have signed an alliance to fight and remove the Khartoum government.
