The Justice and Peace Commission of Wau Catholic Diocese urged the youth to change the mentality of over relying on government employment opportunities.
This came during a three-day workshop conducted by the commission to train youths on the constitutional review process, human rights and eradication of gender based violence, Voice of Hope reported.Justice and Peace Coordinator Natalina Andrea Mabo explained the articles of the constitutional rights and duties to the participants.
She explained that the state provides services to the citizens in exchange for citizens executing their constitutional duties.
Ms Andrea said all citizens must abide and be committed in defending the laws of the country.
She added that the youths spend a lot of time playing cards in spite of the constitutional call to protect the environment by cleaning their surroundings as the collective responsibility of all.
Ms Andrea urged the youth to change their mentality of depending on white collar jobs.
She explained that overreliance on government jobs has hindered development because most of the revenues go for salaries.
More than 30 youth from six parishes participated in the workshop and discussed their rights enshrined in the Transitional Constitution of South Sudan.
