Central Equatoria State authority stopped the wedding ceremony of Kajo Keji County Commissioner to a 15-year old school girl.

Ben Yengi was scheduled to wed a primary seven pupil at his resident on Saturday in Kajo Keji.

Central Equatoria State Child Welfare Director Martin Mogga told CRN over the phone that the wedding will not materialize because it violated the Child Act.

He said the high authority has taken the responsibility and the state Governor was informed about the steps taken to stop the wedding ceremony.

Bishop Mogga said on Thursday his ministry met with a number of NGOs including UNICEF that condemned the act and were working out mechanisms to stop the wedding.

He said the if the Commissioner goes to court to seek an injunction against the ban he will be arrested.

A reliable source in Kajo Keji said preparations were underway at the Commissioner’s resident where the wedding is schedule to take place on Saturday.

The source said parents and relatives of the bride were divided: some supported the wedding and others were against it.

Mr Yengi’s proposed wedding to a school girl has been making waves in the social media for sometime.

The Child Act condemns early marriage and the ban is to be implemented by top state and national authorities.
