The Catholic parish of St Mary in Yambio on Sunday prayed for the senior four candidates to succeed in the South Sudan examinations due to kick off on Monday.

Hundreds of S4 candidates gathered in front of the altar by the end of English Mass to receive a blessing, Radio Anisa reported.

Fr Elia Juma sprinkled holy water upon the students and their examination tools.

He advised them to avoid errors by reading the instructions and keep time in answering one question to another.

State Minister for General Education Pia Philip Michael announced that the examination papers were already in all the exam centers in Western Equatoria.

He told parents to give their children time to concentrate in their studies during the two weeks of examinations.

Mr Pia said the poor performance of primary leaving students in Yambio was due to involvement in many entertainments like boda boda, watching English football, discos, and night funerals.

This is the first time S4 candidates sit for the South Sudan School Examinations in Western Equatoria.
