Reports coming from Budi County say some calm is returning to the area after Tuesday’s clash at Lorema Village that killed a number of civilians and security forces.

The number of people killed is now confirmed to be five and not eight as earlier reported, Radio Emmanuel learned.

The dead include three civilians and two army personnel.

A nurse working for the catholic diocese of Torit at Lorema health centre was among the dead.

The number of injured is now confirmed to be 16: three civilians and 13 security personnel.

The wounded included a child and two women who were inside the clinic at the time of the clashes.

Eastern Equatoria State minister for Administration and Law Enforcement is Chukudum to discuss how to resolve the problem with the local authorities and the community leaders.

Eastern Equatoria Commissioner of Police went also to Chukudum.

Both villages of Lorema and Kikilai remain deserted and some parents up to now do not know the whereabouts of their children.

Over 30 kids arrived in Chukudum and Nahichod after walking a distance of over 33 kilometres.

The standoff between the army and armed civilians started when both sides disagreed how to collect the cows and guns stolen from Ikotos County one week ago.
