SOUTH AFRICA CRITICIZES SUDAN’S RUSH TO ELECTIONS

The South African government expressed dissatisfaction with the Sudanese elections. It said the polls were done in a rush at an inopportune time.

Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe made these statements during a visit to Tunisia.

Mr. Motlanthe affirmed that conditions on the ground were not ideal to hold elections and Sudan had implications for many other African countries.

Mr. Motlanthe added that it is at the interests of any African country to contribute towards peace and stability in Sudan.

He said a number of parties pulled out of the elections and that in itself already creates circumstances for the election outcomes not to be accepted by all because they have these concerns about aspects of the preparations.
