The President of the Republic issued a decree withdrawing the executive powers he had delegated to his Vice President.
Salva Kiir Mayardit’s decree does not specify which executive powers he withdrew from Riek Machar Teny or the reasons for the presidential decree broadcasted by state owned SSTV Monday evening.The constitutional powers of the vice president are very limited.
President Kiir also cancelled by decree the Healing Journey towards National Reconciliation that was due to kick off on June 1 and suspended the committee running the process.
Dr Machar was the head of the reconciliation process and his wife Angelina Teny was leading the national NGO supporting the journey of healing.
