Torit Police arrested six people on Thursday for attempting to play foul at the last day of voting.

Christo Sebi Santio Jeremano, Joese Elam and two under aged boys of 17 and 16 years respectively, were arrested in possession of multiple voter slips, Radio Emmanuel reported.

The suspects are residents of Hai Lotuko in Torit town.

An old man who identified himself as Abut Ahmed, a resident of Hai Korton and a cattle keeper arrested with the six suspects, claimed to have given a voter’s slip to his son by mistake.

Mr. Abut said he could not specify between the two voter’s slips, his and the one of the son as he does not read English.

He said he would have differentiated the voter’s slips if they were written in Arabic.

The young man who was caught with his father voter slip escaped and has gone into hiding.

Eastern Equatoria State High Elections Committee Chairperson, Mr. Joseph Ojuku, confirmed the arrest of the six suspects.

Mr. Ojuku said his office would investigate the matter to trace the origin of the voters’ slips and bring the perpetrators to face courts of law to deter others from committing the same offence in future elections.
