Governor Louis Lobong Lojore has announced plans to introduce a small-scale mining initiative and a local cost-sharing program aimed at strengthening community empowerment and boosting revenue collection in Eastern Equatoria State.
Speaking after presenting a comprehensive report to President Salva Kiir Mayardit on Thursday, Governor Lobong stated that the proposed small-scale mining initiative aims to economically empower local communities while enabling the state government to mobilize resources essential for its operations.
According to the governor, the state government is planning to roll out a local cost-sharing program designed to mobilize contributions from residents to support basic social services, particularly in the health and education sectors.
Governor Lobong also revealed that efforts are underway to rehabilitate feeder roads to enhance connectivity between communities, facilitate trade, and improve access to essential services.
He noted that Eastern Equatoria is currently experiencing relative stability, particularly following recent security incidents in Kapoeta East County. He emphasized that maintaining security remains a top priority for his administration to attract investors and enable development partners to reach communities throughout the state effectively.
Meanwhile, President Salva Kiir Mayardit commended the people and leadership of Eastern Equatoria for their steadfast commitment to peace and stability.
