The Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Wau, His Lordship Matthew Remijio Adam, has called on political leaders to place the interests of citizens above personal and family gains.

Speaking during his homily at St. Mary Help of Christians Cathedral in Wau, Bishop Remijio emphasized that authority, according to the Bible, comes from God and is entrusted to leaders for the purpose of serving the people, not enriching themselves.

He stated that many politicians appointed to constitutional positions often prioritize their families and personal interests while citizens continue to face hunger and a lack of basic services.

Bishop Remijio urged political leaders to fear God and focus on delivering essential services that ease the suffering of the population.

Drawing from Scripture, the Bishop recalled how Satan tempted Jesus in the wilderness but noted that Christ overcame those temptations despite the challenges. He said the example demonstrates that life is filled with trials and that individuals, especially those in leadership, must remain vigilant.

He further encouraged the faithful to make meaningful use of the Lenten season through prayer, fasting, and almsgiving, particularly by supporting the poor and vulnerable in their communities.

Bishop Remijio concluded by reiterating the moral obligation of political leaders to fulfill their mandate responsibly, stressing that leadership is a sacred trust meant to serve the people rather than personal ambitions.
