The Ministry of Energy and Dams has endorsed a Turkish company, Lamar Yape, a major Middle Eastern energy Company, to invest in South Sudan’s electricity sector.
The National Minister of Energy and Dams, Hon. Agok Makur Agok, confirmed the development following a meeting held over the weekend in Juba with a delegation of Turkish investors representing Lamar Yape. The meeting focused on exploring sustainable solutions to South Sudan’s long-standing electricity challenges.
Lamar Yape is a leading energy company operating across Turkey and the Middle East, with substantial capital investment and extensive experience in the energy sector.
Minister Makur revealed that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is currently being finalized and is expected to be signed within the week. Once signed, the agreement will enable the company to urgently commence its electricity supply project in the country.
During the meeting, the investors outlined plans to invest in South Sudan’s energy sector, with a short-term focus on solar power and the deployment of large-capacity generators to provide secure and reliable electricity to major companies, factories, and cities across the country.
Speaking on behalf of the company, Mr. Gültekin Ertuk, Executive Assistant of Lamar Construction, also disclosed a long-term plan to construct a dam as part of broader efforts to ensure sustainable and reliable power generation in South Sudan
