At least four people have been killed and three others injured in a communal clash involving armed youths from Cueibet and Rumbek Central Counties in Lakes State.

The incident occurred on Wednesday evening in the Relkou area of Mayom Payam, Rumbek Central County, where youths from Cueibet had reportedly moved with their cattle.

Speaking to the media on Thursday, Lakes State Acting Minister of Information and Communication, Hon. William Koji Kerjok, confirmed the incident, stating that the fighting allegedly erupted over a bull and a shooting that triggered clashes between both sides.

He said the authorities of Rumbek and Cueibet Counties are currently launching investigations to establish the exact cause of the fighting.

Hon. Koji Kerjok stressed that security forces have been deployed to restore calm in the area, as efforts continue to prevent further escalation of violence.

He said the authorities are working to bring the perpetrators to book and hold them accountable for their actions.

For his part, State Coordinator for Community Empowerment Progress Organization, CEPO, condemned the fight and called on both communities to cease hostilities and embrace calm.

He urged the newly appointed governor of Lakes State to speedily come to the State, take action on people attacking each other, and engage communities in peaceful coexistence.
