The Minister of Energy and Dams, Hon. Agok Makur Kur Agok has pledged to extend electricity supply to Juba suburbs and improve power coverage across Juba City within the coming months, as part of both short-term and long-term energy sector reforms.

Speaking during a welcoming ceremony for the newly appointed Undersecretary at the Ministry of Energy and Dams, Hon. Eng. Macham Macham Angui, on Monday, January 26, 2026, the Minister said the government has developed a two phase plans aimed at transforming electricity and water services nationwide.

“I have two plans, a short-term plan and a long-term plan,” the Minister said. “In the short plan, we need to cover Juba City and transmit electricity across all parts of the capital.”

He expressed confidence that the goal would be achieved through cooperation with key partners, including Juba Electricity Distribution Company (JEDCO) and Ezra Group of Companies, noting that expanding electricity access in Juba remains one of the ministry’s top priorities.

The Minister assured citizens that visible improvements in the energy sectors would be realized within the coming months, although he didn’t specify the time frame.

“I would like to assure the citizens that, God willing, within the coming months, you will see a new shift in the field of energy and water. There will be a new transformation, and there will be new energies,” he said, adding that the ministry is committed to delivering tangible services to the public.

He further emphasized that the long-term plan focuses on sustainable and permanent solutions.
“As for the long plan, we do not want our electricity to be temporary. We want continuous electricity,” the Minister stated. “We are not only talking about electricity, but also about providing domestic water.”

The Minister also welcomed the recent presidential decision to reduce electricity tariffs, describing it as a crucial step toward easing the burden on citizens.

“I thank the President of the Republic for issuing decisions to reduce the cost of electricity to alleviate the suffering of the people,” he said. “I would like to assure the President that we have issued the necessary directions on the ground.”

He added that the ministry will continue negotiations with partners to further reduce electricity costs beyond the current reduction.

“We will look for ways to reduce the cost of electricity even more,” the Minister said, stressing that the government’s core responsibility is to provide essential services, particularly electricity and water, to citizens across the country.
