Police in Western Bahr el Ghazal State have arrested 28 suspects in connection with various crimes committed during the Christmas celebrations, including cases related to insecurity, killings, rape, traffic accidents, and other criminal offenses.

Speaking to Voice of Hope Radio, the State Police Spokesperson, Major Santino Udol Mayen, revealed that a total of 51 criminal cases were recorded during the holiday period, some of which involved juveniles.

According to Maj. Udol Mayen, 16 of the suspects were detained in connection with serious criminal offenses, while 12 others were released after investigations determined their involvement was limited to minor cases.

He said the incidents were reported across Wau Municipality and the state’s three counties during the extended Christmas holiday.

The police spokesperson noted that security during the 2025 Christmas celebrations improved compared to 2024, attributing the progress to increased stability and peace across the state.

Maj. Udol Mayen credited the improved security situation to strong collaboration among security forces, local communities, civil society organizations, church leaders, and enhanced public awareness, as well as the commitment of the State Unity Government.

He also reported a reduction in gang-related activities, supported by the massive deployment of security personnel across the state.

Maj. Udol Mayen confirmed that suspects linked to killing cases remain in police custody and are awaiting court proceedings. He added that more than 800 police officers were deployed throughout Western Bahr el Ghazal State to maintain security during Christmas and the extended holiday period.
