Church Leaders Join Kiir in End-of-Year Dinner, Renewed Call for National Unity

President Salva Kiir Mayardit has reaffirmed his government’s commitment to peace, unity, and democratic governance as South Sudan prepares for general elections slated for December 2026.

Speaking during the End-of-Year State Dinner held on Wednesday at the State House in Juba, President Kiir urged citizens to reject violence and embrace peaceful coexistence, emphasizing that unity remains the foundation for the country’s stability and progress.

“As we move towards the elections, I urge every South Sudanese to choose peace over division and violence,” President Kiir said. “Our unity will determine the kind of future we build for our children.”

The dinner brought together senior government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, civil society representatives, business leaders, and church leaders a gathering that underscored a renewed sense of national partnership and reconciliation.

Church leaders in attendance commended the government’s ongoing efforts to consolidate peace and unity, calling for stronger collaboration between the Church and the State to foster healing and social cohesion.

“Peace requires both prayer and action,” one church representative said. “We must continue walking together as partners in rebuilding this nation.”

Officials described the End-of-Year State Dinner as more than a ceremonial occasion a reflection of hope, cooperation, and a shared vision for a peaceful and inclusive South Sudan.

In his address, President Kiir reiterated the government’s determination to hold credible elections in 2026, assuring that resources will be allocated to the National Elections Commission to ensure a smooth and transparent process.

As a gesture of reconciliation and compassion, the Head of State also ordered the release of 97 inmates from various prisons across the country.
